The Arco is a luxury upholstered bed with an extended headboard: a low, shallow arch that runs past the base on both sides, upholstered inset panels, and a slim dark timber frame whose two vertical strips line up with the side rails of the bed. It is the bed to choose when you want an oversized headboard that reads as architecture rather than furniture, with the presence of a bespoke hotel suite and a restrained contemporary finish. Made to order in our West Yorkshire workshop in six sizes, Double 4ft6 to Alaskan King, in 19 fabrics, with front-lift storage optional and bespoke sizes on request.

A headboard that extends beyond the bed
The extension is the whole idea. As standard the headboard runs 40 cm past the base on each side, so a king size bed with an extended headboard spans 241 cm against a 150 cm mattress, and a super king spans 271 cm; a 60 cm overhang is available on request. The overhang is equal left and right, so the bed sits centred on its wall and a bedside table or cube is framed on either side rather than placed beside it. Because the arch keeps the headboard height at 152 cm, the piece gains its presence from width, not height, which is what lets a bed with a wide headboard feel generous in a room with an ordinary ceiling.
Arched, framed and restrained
The slim timber frame is what makes this an upholstered bed with wood trim rather than a plain padded headboard. It traces the arch, closes the outer edges and drops two vertical lines that land exactly on the side rails, so the headboard and base read as one drawn object. Between the timber, the panels are flat and softly padded; the detail is in the proportions, not the surface. It suits contemporary and hotel-style bedrooms, neutral schemes and rooms that borrow from Japandi or mid-century interiors, anywhere the wall is wide and the brief is quiet.

Every Arco is built and upholstered to order in our West Yorkshire workshop, as a double bed with an extended headboard, a king size, a super king, or in Emperor, Grand Emperor and Alaskan King for the largest rooms; bespoke dimensions can be drawn to your wall. Orders generally take 2–4 weeks. Doorstep delivery is complimentary. Living with The Arco Upholstered Bed with Extended Headboard
Contemporary and hotel-style bedrooms with a wide wall to fill. The extended headboard replaces a headboard wall at a fraction of the work; in a large room choose super king or above and the 60 cm overhang.
Let the timber lines do the drawing: tonal bedding, a low bedside piece under each extension, and a single lamp or pendant on one side only. Nothing hung above the arch.
Flat weaves and linens show the arch cleanly against the dark timber; a pale bouclé softens the frame. Order free swatches and hold them against the timber finish in your own light.

What does "made to order" mean for my bed?
Your bed does not exist yet. When you order, our atelier builds it — your size, your fabric — from the frame up. That is why it takes weeks rather than days, and why no two are quite alike.
Can you make a custom size or design?
Yes — made-to-measure is part of what we do. Speak with a Yorkshire designer and we will draw it for your room.
How does delivery work?

How do I choose the right fabric?
Order free swatches first — we would rather you decide with the fabric in your hand, in your own light, before the atelier cuts it.
How do I care for the upholstery?
Each fabric has its own care guidance, included with your bed, and every frame carries our five-year structural guarantee. For anything else, our returns and warranty policies are linked in the footer.
How far does the Arco headboard extend past the bed?
40 cm past the base on each side as standard, so a double headboard spans 226 cm, a king 241 cm and a super king 271 cm. A 60 cm overhang on each side is available on request, and the full table of widths for every size is in the specifications on this page.
Will bedside tables fit under the extended headboard?
Yes. The extensions are designed to frame a bedside table or cube on each side rather than sit beside one. The overhang width, 40 or 60 cm, tells you how much of the table the headboard will stand behind; most bedside pieces are 40 to 50 cm wide.
Is an extended headboard the same as a headboard wall?
No. A headboard wall is fixed to the wall and usually runs its full width; the Arco's extended headboard is part of the bed, so it arrives assembled with the frame, needs no fixing and moves with you. If you want the whole wall upholstered, see our headboard walls page.
Will it fit up my stairs and through the door?
Check doorways, hallways, stairs and turns against the dimensions table on this page before you order. If you are unsure, send a photograph of the route to the workshop and we will tell you honestly whether it will fit and, if not, what we can make that does.

Which mattress fits this bed?
Any standard UK mattress in the same size. The base height in the dimensions table tells you how high the top of the mattress will sit; add your mattress depth to it. Our own mattresses are made in every size to match.
What if it arrives damaged or is not what I ordered?
Tell us within 30 days of delivery and we repair, replace or refund in full and collect from your home at our cost. Photographs help us act quickly.
Can I see the beds before I order?
Yes, by appointment at the workshop in West Yorkshire. Free fabric swatches are posted to your home so you can choose the cloth in your own light before you visit or order.
Can this bed have storage?
Yes. Every bed can be made with a front-lift storage base, built to the same size and fabric as the bed; the whole platform rises on gas struts. Choose it under Storage on this page.
