Every bed on this page is made to order in our West Yorkshire workshop, in the fabric you choose, on a frame built to be re-covered rather than replaced. Nothing here is held in a warehouse. That is why the lead time is measured in weeks, and why the bed arrives as yours rather than as stock.
If you are deciding between a double and a king, the honest comparison is here — and every dimension is in our UK bed size guide. We would rather you bought the right size once.
Will a double bed fit your room?
The bed is rarely the constraint — the space around it is. A double needs 135cm of wall, plus room to walk and to open a wardrobe. Comfortable both sides: a wall run of 2.6m or more. Workable with one side to the wall: from 2.0m. Below 2.0m, consider a small double at 120cm, or a wall-mounted headboard to recover the depth a strutted headboard takes.
Choosing your fabric
Bouclé holds light softly and suits a room you want to feel quiet. Velvet has depth and reads formal. Linen-weaves are the most forgiving in a bright room. Chenille and plush wear well in a room in daily use. Order free swatches before you decide — fabric looks different in your own light.
Pairing a mattress
A double mattress is 135 × 190cm. Ours are pocket-sprung, hand-finished, and chosen for the way you sleep rather than by spring count alone — every one with a 60-night free trial. Read the honest mattress guide.
How your bed is made
Made to order means the bed is cut for your specification after you order it — not pulled from stock. Lead time is typically 2–4 weeks, and every bed carries a 5-year warranty covering structural damage.
What size is a double bed?
135cm wide and 190cm long — 4ft 6in by 6ft 3in. A double mattress is the same 135 × 190cm.
Is a double bed big enough for two people?
It is the most common size for two adults in the UK, giving each person about 67cm — narrower than a single bed each. If you both move in your sleep, or one of you is tall, a king at 150cm wide and 10cm longer is usually the better decision.
How long does a made-to-order double bed take?
Typically 2–4 weeks, because the frame is built and upholstered after you order it.
Can you make a double bed to a non-standard size?
Yes. We build to your measurements, which matters in older houses, loft rooms and anywhere a standard frame will not turn on the landing. Commission a bespoke bed.
